The Shadow Beneath

This so looks like the cover to a 90s paperback to me. XD; Man, I suck at arranging typography! And OI, the pixelization! Xo I could have used Paintshop Pro 9 but errr, my computer started slowing down XD; So I used Opencanvas 1.1 again. And I think that was a bad idea now...

This was made for :iconritolovers:'s contest, which has a very clever theme about making a movie poster featuring Ritos. I'm entering in retrospect, in a way: I feel pretty guilty about not making it for the last contest while ~Faulken was trying to get it to live again.

The title is awful, but I couldn't think of anything XD; This is probably the title of like... 9 trillion movies. And let's not even talk about the catchphrase. "The adventure begins," my foot.

Very much inspired by Nelly Furtado's All Good Things (Come to an End) (video disturbs me, though D8; ) and powered by the pleasant songs Say Goodnight and Go (bizarre video, creeps me out), Forca (wonderful video! Also by Furtado), and Pull Shapes by The Pipettes (another downright weird video here, I do not recommend it XD; ). Now you know what a bizarre musical taste I have. D8; Can't get much odder than Imogen Heap and something heavily reminiscent of retro pop.

I take that back, if I liked Bjork, THEN I'd be off the deep end of the musical pool XD;

Anywho, I chose Medli and Komali again. I rarely use romance as a theme, but I think that makes it all the more special. :) Which it should be.

Of all my regrets I wished I had made the image a bit larger and then resized, so the figure on the bier would be more distinct. Plus, my lineart and my coloring hate each other. If I'm not making my backgrounds so dark they merge with my black lineart, I'm making my coloring way too complicated (it always looks so overdone). It's really a matter of getting more practice and experience.... Then I got "nickel-and-dimed" by little problems all over the darn thing. I still hate a great deal of it. But there's a point where you just have to say: "All right, I'm ready to move on." As da Vinci said: "Art is never finished, only abandoned."

You'll notice I asked for critiques. Please inform me how I may better pieces in the future. However, I would really prefer if you would give a "solution" with your critique. For example: in one of my previous works, ~Wulfsbane told me not to make the distance in a cave "pure black." Why? Because the further in the distance you go, the "grayer" things become. That has helped with every single picture I've done since. Please give me reasons, examples, etc, on how I can improve. Don't just say "lol, his ear looks like a salami" or "the colors look like humpback whale upchuck D8". Please give me solutions. :nod:

Many thanks :thanks:
